yeah right

先日、ブライアンとチャットしていたところ、「学校では絶対教えないことを教えてやるぜ!」と言ってこんなことを教えてくれた・・・

僕はいつも何か相手が「これ、あってる?」みたいなときや同意する時に「yeah,right」とよく言っていたんであるが、これが時には誤解をもたらすというのである・・・

[11/30/2012 11:05:27 PM] Brian: also yeah right= i don't believe you
[11/30/2012 11:05:28 PM] Brian: haha
[11/30/2012 11:05:34 PM] Brian: people always misuse this phrase
[11/30/2012 11:05:47 PM] Brian: when said sarcastically
[11/30/2012 11:05:51 PM] Brian: yeah right = uso!
[11/30/2012 11:05:53 PM] Brian: haha
[11/30/2012 11:06:07 PM] Brian: no foreigns seem to know this
[11/30/2012 11:06:18 PM] Brian: so you should just say yeah or i know etc
[11/30/2012 11:06:32 PM] Brian: i'll explain this on the next voice chat
[11/30/2012 11:06:41 PM] Brian: yeah right ...is phrase
[11/30/2012 11:06:49 PM] Brian: its not the same as yes, correct
[11/30/2012 11:07:03 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: oh 'yeah right' indicates 'I dont think so '
[11/30/2012 11:07:14 PM] Brian: if you say "yeah right" in a sarcastic tone
[11/30/2012 11:07:18 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: implication
[11/30/2012 11:07:22 PM] Brian: it indicates that you don't believve what the speaker is saying
[11/30/2012 11:07:33 PM] Brian: like if a japanese person says "uso!" etc
[11/30/2012 11:07:34 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: ah really Ididnt know that
[11/30/2012 11:07:42 PM] Brian: it has a similar meaning
[11/30/2012 11:07:47 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: like it's far fetched
[11/30/2012 11:07:52 PM] Brian: but it depends on context
[11/30/2012 11:07:55 PM] Brian: so if you say yeah right
[11/30/2012 11:07:58 PM] Brian: in text
[11/30/2012 11:08:03 PM] Brian: it can confuse english speakers
[11/30/2012 11:08:11 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: ah that makes sense
[11/30/2012 11:08:14 PM] Brian: you might give off the wrong impression
[11/30/2012 11:08:26 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: that's interesting
[11/30/2012 11:08:36 PM] Brian: for example
[11/30/2012 11:08:42 PM | Edited 11:08:52 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: I'm going to post this issue on my 'nerd blog'
[11/30/2012 11:08:49 PM] Brian: if some bum tells you "I just bought a new car"
[11/30/2012 11:09:03 PM] Brian: you say "yeah right, you can't even afford a pair of shoes"
[11/30/2012 11:09:13 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: ah that makes sense
[11/30/2012 11:09:17 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: nice one
[11/30/2012 11:09:20 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: thanks man
[11/30/2012 11:09:22 PM] Brian: it indicates
[11/30/2012 11:09:23 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: I got it
[11/30/2012 11:09:28 PM] Brian: that you think the speaker is full of shit
[11/30/2012 11:09:42 PM] Brian: but it can be used in a light way
[11/30/2012 11:09:49 PM] Kazushi Yoshimura: so I should've said just 'I know ' or 'yeah'
[11/30/2012 11:09:52 PM] Brian: so it can be a friendly joke
[11/30/2012 11:09:55 PM] Brian: or offensive
[11/30/2012 11:10:02 PM] Brian: depending on the context

とまあこんな訳である・・・今まで百万回くらい言ってしまっていた・・・・

そのたびにみんな「あ~?」とか思ってたんだろうな~

もうクセになってるから言ってから あっ!しまった!とか毎回思う・・・・
